Abalone is the computer version of the board game of the same name created in France in 1987 by Michel Lalet and Laurent Lévi: a hexagonal-board abstract game in which two or three players push marbles trying to expel six of their rival's. Its arrival on 8- and 16-bit computers followed the usual formula of these conversions, with faithful rules and an artificial intelligence to play against the machine. For the Atari audience it is, above all, a catalog curiosity: a cult board game in Europe that found a modest digital life, faithful to its coffee-table origin rather than to the graphic ambition of other titles of the time.
