Activision built much of its early prestige on sports simulators that squeezed the 2600 for all it was worth, and its "Baseball" packed in at-bats, different pitch types, and fielder control into a package designed for both a quick solo game and head-to-head matches. For its time, it offered more tactical options than the baseball game Atari had released under its own label.
Today it's remembered as part of the lineage of '80s sports simulators that laid the groundwork — no pun intended — for what would later become licensed baseball games.
