Cakewalk is one of the many cartridges various minor companies released for the Atari 2600 during the early-'80s third-party boom, when dozens of small labels competed for shelf space without leaving much documentary trail behind their games. What survives of it places it within that mass of minor console production, with no solid data on authorship or specific mechanics beyond the generic traits of the era's catalog. Cases like this are a reminder that the Atari 2600's library doesn't end with its classics: there's an enormous volume of limited-circulation software that survives today thanks to collecting rather than collective memory.
