Canyon Bomber arrived on the Atari 2600 in 1979 as an adaptation of Atari's own arcade game, pitting two players against each other as they fly over a canyon full of stacked blocks, dropping bombs to knock them down before their rival does. The simple bounce-and-fall physics demand calculating angles on every pass, in a minimalist design typical of the console's early years. It doesn't aim for sophistication: it bets everything on marksmanship and the tension of two players competing over the same terrain.
