Escape from the Mindmaster, published by Imagic in 1982 for the Atari 2600, traps the player inside the mind of a mad scientist, represented as a first-person psychedelic maze that has to be navigated by solving memory and pattern-recognition puzzles. Its most-remembered detail is the scratch-and-sniff card that came in the box: at a certain point in the game, you had to scratch and smell it to decipher a clue, a marketing trick uncommon even for the Atari 2600's experimental era. It's an atypical game within the console's catalog, closer to a conceptual puzzle than to pure action.
