Frogger is the arcade game Konami developed and Sega published in 1981: guide a frog across a busy highway and a river full of logs and turtles to reach home safely, with rules as simple as they are unforgiving. It was one of the most successful arcade games of those years in North America, and Parker Brothers grabbed the license to bring it to practically every console and home computer available: Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Intellivision, ColecoVision, Commodore 64, and more.
That avalanche of home conversions — four million cartridges in its first year on the Atari 2600 alone — turned Frogger into one of the most universally recognizable names of the golden age, comparable to Pac-Man in cultural reach. It still keeps resurfacing in collections and remakes today, proof that its race-against-the-clock crossing formula never lost its edge.
