Hangman ~ Spelling adapts the pen-and-paper hangman game to the Atari 2600, with the player guessing words letter by letter before running out of allowed attempts, in one of the console's earliest attempts to offer something resembling educational or vocabulary content. It's part of the first generation of cartridges that sought to broaden the machine's audience beyond pure action. Its appeal was always modest compared to the rest of the console's catalog, but it plays a historical role as one of the few word games the 2600 had in its early years.
