The official adaptation of Namco's arcade phenomenon, published by Atari with sky-high expectations that the console's hardware couldn't quite meet: flickering ghosts, a simplified maze, and sound that didn't match the original disappointed much of the audience that already knew the arcade version by heart. Even so, it became one of the best-selling cartridges in 2600 history. Its story is now a classic lesson in overblown expectations and the wear the industry suffered in the early '80s.
