Q-bert, published by Parker Brothers based on Gottlieb's 1982 arcade game, has the player hopping across a pyramid of cubes to change their color while dodging Coily the snake and other creatures, all narrated with the character's trademark gibberish exclamations. The 2600 version simplifies the original isometric perspective but keeps the core mechanic of diagonal jumps across the pyramid. It was one of Parker Brothers' most popular arcade conversions for the console, and it helped establish Q*bert as one of the most recognizable characters of the arcade's golden age, even among those who never actually saw the original cabinet.
