Instead of jumping across cubes stacked in a pyramid like in the original arcade game, this sequel proposes sliding rows and columns of a square board to trap enemies against the edges, a puzzle mechanic much closer to a sliding puzzle than to the classic Q*bert's jumping platformer. Parker Brothers released it looking to renew the formula without losing the character that gave the brand its identity.
It's one of the most atypical sequels in the Atari 2600 catalog, remembered more for its design experiment than for having matched the original's popularity.
