Summer Games, originally developed by Epyx for 8-bit computers, gathers several summer Olympic disciplines —swimming, pole vault, gymnastics, among others— resolved through timed reflex sequences, capitalizing on the Olympic Games fever that swept through much of mid-80s sports video gaming. The Atari 2600 version adapts that multi-event structure to the console's capabilities. It was one of the most influential sports franchises of its decade, and its format of several disciplines within a single cartridge set a mold that countless later Olympic games would end up replicating.
