Touchdown Football came out in 1989, developed by Imagineering and published by Atari Corporation: American football matches viewed from above, with offense and defense plays simplified to be resolved with few buttons, following the same logic as the other sports Atari kept adding to the 7800 during its final years of commercial life. It didn't aim for deep simulation but for quick, accessible matches. It's one more among the many sports cartridges that sought to broaden the console's catalog against Nintendo and Sega's competition, never gaining much traction beyond Atari's already-loyal audience.
