18 Wheeler - American Pro Trucker was born in 1999 as a Sega AM2 arcade board and reached Dreamcast shortly after, already in the console's final stretch in Japan: the idea is to drive semi trucks at full speed down American highways, drifting through traffic and smashing into special vans that add extra seconds to the clock. It's arcade racing in Sega's purest sense, with the same direct spirit that defined Crazy Taxi, only with the weight and inertia of a giant truck.
It never aspired to be a trucking simulator, and that's the charm of it: pure arcade sensation, ideal for short sessions. It remains an endearing curiosity within the console's racing catalog, especially for anyone looking for something different from the more conventional speed of Sega's other titles.
This system doesn't run in the browser yet (Dreamcast, GameCube, PS2 and Xbox are on the way as web emulation matures). The dossier, media and community are already all yours.
