Dark Echoes is the Japanese title of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, which took Samus Aran to the planet Aether, split between a dimension of light and one of corrupted shadow ruled by an energy called Dark Phazon, deepening the first-person exploration design Retro Studios had debuted with the first Prime.
It's considered by much of the press and fans as the high point of the Prime trilogy in terms of atmosphere and dungeon design, though also the most demanding of the three for its difficulty and dual-world structure.
