Directed by Takeshi Yamazaki and developed by Capcom, Apollo Justice - Ace Attorney (2007 in Japan, 2008 elsewhere) marks a generational leap within the saga: Phoenix Wright is no longer the playable protagonist but a figure who reappears in a different role, while Apollo Justice takes over the stand with his own special gift for detecting witnesses' nervous tells. The formula of investigating scenes and picking apart contradictory testimony in court stays intact.
It's a narrative turning point within the saga, met with some resistance from fans attached to Phoenix Wright, but today it's recognized as a solid entry that laid the groundwork for what followed in later Ace Attorney games.
