Developed by Nintendo together with Japanese neuroscientist Ryuta Kawashima, "Brain Age" offered a daily routine of simple math, reading-aloud, and memory exercises, summarized in a "brain age" compared session by session. It was one of the titles that defined DS's "games for everyone" strategy and brought the console into homes that had never bought a videogame console before.
Its legacy is still felt today in the sheer number of cognitive-training apps that followed it. As an experience, it aged well: the premise of exercising the mind for five minutes a day remains as simple and effective as it was in 2005.
