Tetsuya Nomura and studio Jupiter captured real Shibuya: fashion, noise, brand names, and self-absorbed teenagers trapped in a seven-day game of death. Combat ran across both screens at once, controlling Neku with the stylus below while directing his partner with the D-pad above — a juggling act no port ever quite managed to replicate. Its soundtrack of J-pop, hip-hop, and rock still sounds ahead of its time.
