Cadash began life as a Taito arcade game in 1989 and has since seen conversions to half a dozen systems, including the PC Engine and TurboGrafx-16, where NEC published it in 1991. The player chooses among four classes — warrior, priestess, mage, or ninja — each with its own combat style and spells, advancing through side-scrolling stages fighting monsters, leveling up, and buying gear in towns between missions. It's one of the clearest bridges between the arcade beat 'em up and the action RPG that later flourished on consoles.
