Car-Race is, once again, one of those names that literally describe the game: a car race stripped down to its most basic form, with the perspective and technical limits typical of the earliest Japanese home computers. That minimalism isn't a flaw but a mark of its time: before the racing genre added tracks, licenses, and complex physics, everything was solved with a scrolling road and a car that had to stay on it.
It stands as an archaeological piece of the genre: a testament to what "playing at racing" looked like before the word simulation was even part of gaming's vocabulary.
