The Maze of Galious sends Popolon and Aphrodite through a sprawling, interconnected castle, blending platforming, combat, and environmental puzzles in a design that was years ahead of what Metroid and Castlevania would later popularize under the name metroidvania. It's one of the most celebrated gems in the MSX catalog, still recommended today for its design ambition — a key piece for understanding the Japanese lineage of non-linear exploration before the term even existed to describe it.
