Amagami, developed by AQ Interactive and Enterbrain, is a school-romance visual novel centered on a boy who was stood up on Christmas Day and carries that wound throughout the story. Each of the game's six female routes works almost like an independent story, with distinct tones and pacing, something uncommon in the genre at the time.
Its popularity went beyond the game thanks to the animated adaptation Amagami SS, which gave international reach to a title that would otherwise have stayed confined to the niche of Japanese visual novels. It remains a reference within the dating-sim subgenre with an anthology structure.
