Area 51 puts the player in the shoes of a special-unit commando investigating a military base overrun by an extraterrestrial infection, with a script that openly pays homage to the conspiracy mythology tied to the real-life location. Midway bet on a straightforward shooter, with conventional weapons giving way to mutant powers as the protagonist becomes infected.
It's a typical representative of the mid-2000s FPS: corridors, waves of enemies, and a B-movie tone that today is enjoyed more for its period flavor than for technical ambition.
