Black, developed by Criterion Games (the team behind Burnout), reduced the shooter to its purest essence: aim, shoot, and destroy absolutely everything around you, with a sound design and use of destructible environments that had no comparison on console at the time. There's no stealth or resource management here: it's pure gunpowder spectacle.
It remains a mandatory reference for understanding how the console shooter genre could compete with PC in sheer impact, and its influence can be felt in later games that chased that same sense of controlled chaos.
