Battle Gear 3 originated as a Japanese Taito arcade machine focused on tuning-style urban racing, with vehicle customization as one of its central draws. The PS2 version sought to recreate that arcade experience in the living room, with the adjustments typical of a home conversion.
It remained an almost exclusively Japanese experience, overshadowed abroad by series like Gran Turismo or Namco's own Ridge Racer. Today it's of interest mostly to collectors and fans of Japanese tuning from that era.
