Choro Q HG (High Grade) brought the franchise's classic formula to PS2 for the first time: cars with exaggerated, cartoonish proportions, accessible arcade racing, and an exploration and character-progression component more typical of an RPG than a conventional racing game. The series, with over a decade of history in Japan, already had a loyal following.
Though it never reached Mario Kart's popularity outside Japan, Choro Q maintained a niche of its own thanks to that uncommon combination of speed and light narrative, which set it apart from the rest of the era's kart games.
