Produced by Capcom and Sunsoft, with film director Kinji Fukasaku (Battle Royale) participating in the cinematic direction of its scenes, it puts an English teenager at the mercy of giant creatures that can only be evaded through stealth, hiding, and a panic mechanic that punishes clumsy movements. The total absence of offensive combat sets it apart from the rest of the genre and brings it closer to pure horror than to action.
It's one of the tensest and least imitated pieces of PS2's survival horror: its formula of absolute helplessness still feels uncomfortable and effective.
