Colin McRae Rally 04 continued the rally simulation line Codemasters built alongside the Scottish driver, with handling more technical and punishing than conventional driving arcades, demanding precise reading of the co-driver's notes and fine control over changing surfaces. The saga became one of the genre's benchmarks during the 2000s, alongside WRC.
For rally fans, this entry is still remembered as part of the franchise's golden period, before its later transformation into the DiRT series.
