BioWare developed Knights of the Old Republic, and LucasArts published it in 2003 for Xbox, with a PC version that same year. Set four millennia before the original trilogy, it follows a Republic soldier who travels between familiar and new planets while assembling a party of companions and uncovering a past tied to the Sith Lord Darth Revan.
The game built in moral choices with real narrative weight and a story twist that became a landmark for the Western RPG. It cemented BioWare as a top-tier studio and spawned a sequel from Obsidian Entertainment and, years later, the online universe The Old Republic.
