Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters (1989) is an Atari Games shooting game paying deliberately comedic homage to 50s B-movie science fiction: giant robots, rubbery aliens, and a wooden hero facing them with a rotary joystick that also served to aim the weapon, an uncommon control setup that was much celebrated at the time.
It's one of the most charming shooters in Atari Games' late-80s catalog, fondly remembered for its self-aware humor and its visual craftsmanship, which precisely parodied the pulp aesthetic of classic science fiction.
