Columns II - The Voyage Through Time picks up the Columns formula —dropping columns of three gems to line up three or more of the same color— and adds a story mode with scenarios set in different historical eras, plus a score-based combat system against CPU-controlled rivals. Sega published it in 1990, barely a year after the original Columns. It's a solid sequel but less remembered than the game that spawned it: Columns remained forever associated with the image of Sega competing with Tetris, while this second part remained more of a footnote within that rivalry of late-80s falling-block puzzles.
