Canvas 3 - Tanshoku no Pastel continued a saga of Japanese visual novels where art -specifically painting- functioned as the thread connecting relationships between the protagonist and the heroines. F&C, the studio behind the PC original, saw this PS2 conversion as a way to bring the story closer to a console audience, with the content adjustments typical of this kind of adaptation.
Like much of the era's visual novels, it remained confined to the Japanese market, where the genre had an established audience that didn't always overlap with those following the rest of PS2's catalog.
