Air Gallet was born from Gazelle, formed by former Toaplan members after that legendary Japanese shooter studio closed, and it came out under the Banpresto label in 1996. The premise is genre-classic: pilot a fighter against a terrorist organization attacking cities around the world, crossing six stages loaded with power-ups and full-screen bosses, all on Neo Geo MVS hardware. For the vertical-shooter fan circle it's a piece valued precisely for that Toaplan-Gazelle lineage, even though its own director ended up expressing some dissatisfaction with the final result. Today it's played mostly for historical curiosity: it's one of the few vertical shoot 'em ups designed specifically for SNK's hardware.
