Air Rescue ran on the Sega System 32 board and took Choplifter's premise — flying through hostile territory to rescue stranded soldiers — but reworked it in first person, with the player looking through the helicopter's windshield while taking off, advancing toward the rescue zone, and firing cannon and missiles at tanks and ground troops. Landing under fire to pick up the rescued adds tension to the final stretch of each mission.
It was overshadowed by other Sega shooters of the same generation, but its subjective camera and mission-rescue rhythm make it an interesting experiment within the brand's war catalog, halfway between a light simulator and a shoot 'em up.
