Alien Syndrome has the player — solo or with a partner — traveling through a ship or base overrun by alien creatures, firing non-stop while searching for and freeing hostages scattered across the map before time runs out. The maze-like level structure with a boss at the end set a template many action shooters would later imitate.
It's a representative title of Sega's mid-80s catalog: constant pace, time-limit tension, and that B-movie horror aesthetic the brand knew how to exploit well in arcades.
