Aztarac is one of the last gasps of the vector era in American arcades: Centuri released it in 1983 using a vector monitor instead of raster, the same technology as Asteroids or Battlezone, at a moment when it was already being pushed aside by raster displays. It's distinguished by a radar system that lets you jump between different sectors of space, each with its own threat, instead of facing waves on a single continuous screen.
It's valued today precisely for arriving late to the vector party: it's one of the few examples of that technology with design ideas of its own instead of just imitating Asteroids, and for that reason it holds a cult status among vector hardware collectors.
