Boulder Dash was born in 1984 as a game for home computers —mainly 8-bit Atari and Commodore 64— created by Peter Liepa and Chris Gray, with the premise of digging tunnels in caves full of falling rocks, collecting diamonds, and escaping before getting crushed. Its enormous success led to numerous conversions, including this adaptation that brings the same formula to the arcade format.
The central idea —simple to understand, demanding to master, with that real-time physical puzzle component— remains just as effective as it was in 1984. It's a game that can be enjoyed today without needing historical context, something uncommon among titles of its generation.
