Chelnov - Atomic Runner follows a Soviet miner who, after a nuclear accident, gains special powers and sets out to fight an alien invasion by running nonstop through automatically-scrolling side-view stages, shooting and melee-attacking alike. Data East released it in 1988, right in the middle of the forced-scroll action genre's boom. It's fondly remembered by fans of Data East's late-80s catalog: its science-fiction premise with a Chernobyl-tinged twist, uncommon for the time, and its frantic pace set it apart from other contemporary run and guns.
