Chiller puts the player in front of scenes from a torture dungeon, shooting at chained victims to 'free' them in a manner extremely graphic for the standards of the time. Its level of gratuitous violence generated immediate rejection in the press and led many distributors and countries to directly withdraw it or ban its installation in arcades.
It's studied today as a mandatory reference case in any history of censorship and violence in video games: an early example of how far arcades could go before the industry began to self-regulate its content.
