Fatal Fury 2 (Garou Densetsu 2 in Japan) fixed much of the original Fatal Fury's limitations: it added four new characters to the first game's four playable ones, noticeably improved the animations, and introduced the two-line combat system, allowing dodging attacks by moving between a front plane and a back one, an idea that would become the saga's trademark.
It's a key piece in the historic rivalry between SNK and Capcom within the fighting genre: it came out just a few months after Street Fighter II Champion Edition, in the middle of the race to define the standard fighting game of the nineties, and laid the mechanical groundwork the Fatal Fury series (and later King of Fighters) would keep developing for years.
