1943: The Battle of Midway is the sequel to Capcom's arcade game 1942, a vertical shoot 'em up in which the player pilots an Allied fighter against waves of Japanese planes and ships. Like so many arcade games of the time, it had home conversions for 16-bit computers that tried to replicate the original's speed and screen saturation with far more limited memory. It is not the definitive version of the game, which is still the arcade board, but for those who lived through those years it represents the way 1943 entered European homes: by disk, with a trimmed soundtrack and the same taste for dodging bullets in ever tighter patterns.
