Baldies arrived in 1995 courtesy of Creative Edge Software for the Jaguar CD, adapting a strategy-and-simulation concept that already existed on PC: the player leads a community of small bald beings, manages their resources and growth, and must defend them from a rival tribe of hairy beings trying to wipe them out. The cartoonish aesthetic contrasts with the usual seriousness of the Atari catalog of those years. Like much of the Jaguar CD's brief catalog, it's more of a niche curiosity today than a remembered classic, but it documents well Atari's attempt to diversify genres beyond pure action in the console's final stretch.
