Designed by David Crane for Activision, Barnstorming puts the player at the controls of a small plane that has to fly through sixteen barns and dodge windmills in the shortest time possible, with flying precision as the only real challenge. It's an exercise in minimalist design: a single screen, a single rule, tension that builds with every attempt to beat your own record. Part of that generation of Activision classics that proved a 2600 cartridge could be elegant with almost nothing.
