BattleSphere was born as an almost-finished development in Atari's final days, later rescued by studio 4Play (under the ScatoLOGIC label) to publish it independently in 2000: ship combat in enclosed spherical arenas, with a first-person cockpit and a level of technical ambition few official titles in the catalog managed to match. The 2002 Gold edition added extra content and adjustments to the original base. Along with Tempest 2000, it's one of the names that comes up most often when discussing the Jaguar as a platform that stayed alive thanks to its own fans long after Atari abandoned the hardware.
