Impossible Mission had debuted in 1984 on the Commodore 64 as one of the great platformers of its time, with rooms full of patrolling robots and furniture hiding clues within pieces of an audio puzzle. The 7800 version, developed by Man Development Corp. and published by Atari Corporation in 1988, carried that formula of exploration, partial stealth, and memorization over to the home console. Its approach -think before you act, memorize movement patterns, and avoid direct contact with the robots- sets it apart from the more straightforward action that dominated the 7800's library, and it remains one of the system's best-regarded conversions.
