Maze Craze - A Game of Cops 'n Robbers is the game Rick Maurer designed for Atari in 1980: two players, represented as colored squares, compete to be the first to escape a maze of "city blocks" randomly generated each game, with variants adding robbers to catch or avoid, and mazes that are partially or fully invisible, only revealed for brief instants. Sears rebranded it Maze Mania for its Tele-Games line, with the same cartridge underneath.
It's an early example of how Atari explored procedural level generation, still at a very rudimentary stage, to extend the shelf life of a simple idea. The invisible-maze variant, in particular, anticipates spatial memory mechanics that would later reappear in very different genres.
