Space Shuttle: A Journey into Space, designed by Jessica Stevens and published by Activision in 1983, simulates in first person from the cockpit the most critical phases of a space shuttle mission: launch, orbital stabilization, docking, reentry braking, and landing, each with its own protocol of instructions to follow. It used absolutely every physical switch on the Atari 2600, something so unusual that the cartridge came with an overlay sheet for the control panel, which is why it's often cited as the most complex game in the console's entire library. It later got ports to Atari's 8-bit computers, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, and MSX, all faithful to that serious simulation aim rather than arcade spectacle.
