Tempest 2000 is Jeff Minter's (Llamasoft) reworking of Dave Theurer's classic 1981 vector arcade game, published by Atari Corp for the Jaguar in 1994. It keeps the original mechanic of shooting enemies climbing a three-dimensional tube while the player slides around its rim, but wraps it in a nonstop explosion of psychedelic visual effects and an electronic soundtrack composed by Minter himself.
For much of the press and the public, it's the single best game in the entire Jaguar library, and one of the main reasons the console still has an active fan community decades after its commercial failure.
