The Fidelity Ultimate Chess Challenge came out in 1991 through Telegames, building on the reputation of Fidelity Electronics, a company that had specialized in computers dedicated exclusively to playing chess since the seventies: the cartridge offered various difficulty levels and an engine capable of putting up a serious game, something uncommon within the Lynx's largely arcade catalog. It also allowed saving games and adjusting the machine's thinking time. It's one of the handheld's few pure board-game representatives, designed for an audience looking for something far more unhurried than the constant action of the rest of the catalog.
