Track and Field (1983) gathers disciplines like the hundred-meter dash, the long jump, or the javelin throw, all resolved by pressing buttons as fast as possible to build up speed or power, in a design meant to physically wear out players in the arcade. It was a phenomenon of its era —it even damaged more than one arcade joystick from players' rough treatment— and laid the groundwork for an entire sports subgenre that Konami and others would keep exploiting for years.
