Konami moved its vampire-hunter saga into 3D with this 1999 title, set in Dracula's castle with the exploration structure, whip combat, and environmental puzzles that characterize the series. It was the base upon which the expanded version Legacy of Darkness was built months later.
Like any first 3D foray of an established 2D saga, it has its rough edges —somewhat stiff camera and controls— but it retains the gothic atmosphere that made Castlevania great, and it's a key piece for understanding how Konami approached the leap into three dimensions.
